How to Apply for Green Key Certification


We make applying for Green Key certification very simple and we support the venue every step of the way. Our process is:

Pre-application – the venue should complete the simple pre-application form. Once this is completed –

  1. Australian Sustainable Destinations Appliance will engage with the venue conduct to explain the certification process, with the invoice for Year One of certification being payable at this time (first year of certification does not begin until the venue is fully certified).
  2. Venue completes full application and with Australian Sustainable Destinations Alliance mentoring the venue through the process until completion, providing advice as necessary.
  3. Once application is successfully completed SDA organises independent audit. Invoice for independent audit is payable at this time.
  4. Independent auditor will provider completed audit report to SDA. If remedies are required, SDA will coordinate this with the venue and reengage with independent auditor until the process is successfully completed.
  5. Once audit is successful the venue will be certified and will receive their plaque and associated certification documentation.
  6. In subsequent years, Australian Sustainable Destinations Alliance will engage with the venue at least two months prior to the next certification period, mentoring the venue through the next phase, including clear direction on “imperative” and “guideline “criteria” and the audit process.
    Assessment will be carried out annually by a standard application form and the submission of
    supplementary documents. In addition, an on-site audit is undertaken in year one and two, and every third
    year thereafter, as per the FEE guidelines.
